Privacy is a very important issue that companies are dealing with today. New technologies create risks that weren’t even considered five years ago. Requirements imposed by legislation and standards such as SOX, HIPAA, PCI compliance, etc., have resulted in a high cost of compliance to the companies trying to manage it. What is the impact of these risks and how do we as auditors/IT advisors respond to it?

Papers should be in APA format, 10-15 pages , and double spaced. They should include a Cover Page, Table of Contents, Body, and a References page. This is a business paper and it should look like one.

For those of you who are or want to be more tech-savvy, SJSU is going to host a Cyber Quest prep camp on April 6. Cyber Quest teaches students about the ins and outs of network security and computer hacking. Learn how to hack systems and how to prevent your network from being hacked. There will be an online competition April 16-April 30. Participants that qualify during the online competition will be invited to the SJSU Cyber Quest summer camp in August.

This is a great opportunity to beef up your resume and learn something that can be critical to your career.

The CISA exam is now being given three times a year: June, September, December. Don’t pass up on taking the review courses given by ISACA. As a student your fees to take the review course are refunded once you complete the course. This is a great opportunity to beef up your resume and be one step ahead of your peers in the AIS field. Stop by the ISACA Exam Registration page and check it out. Registration isn’t up for the September exam yet but we will be sure to let you know as soon as it is.

Spring 2013 Semester Begins

It is the start of a new semester. For those of us returning, welcome back.

If this is your first semester at SJSU we would love to meet with you at the ISACA table outside of the Boccardo Business Center (BBC). ISACA will be tabling for the first two weeks of the semester. Feel free to stop by and say hi. If anybody is interested in signing up for ISACA, we will have applications at the table.

The first meeting is scheduled for February 14th. Non-members are welcome to come to the first two meetings. I hope to see a bunch of familiar faces as well as some new ones.
